Like every idea, the idea for this practice came from thoughts percolating over a period of time and a series of big conversations with a few trusted friends. My work in social work, counselling and ministry draws on over ten years of heart-filled formation, academic study and many experiences which enable me to walk compassionately with others on their journey.

My ‘day job’ is as the College Social Worker at Monivae College in Hamilton where I work in a multi-disciplinary well-being team. Monivae is governed and operated by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (MSC) whose heart-centred spirituality, and the love which flows from that, shapes how we live and work as a school. This resonates with my own practice, and defines how I believe I operate as a clinician.

Like you, I have been on a unique, challenging and enriching journey through life in the church, and beyond. Like every human being, I am on a quest for meaning and through small acts of purpose, am learning to understand what life is truly for. I grew up in Geelong and worked hard at school, discovering that God had somehow caught my imagination.

That first glimpse of the Divine has led me on a path that has been at times filled with joy, and at other times filled with sorrow. I studied literature and theology, and was ordained as an Anglican Deacon and Priest. I have served in rural and urban parishes and on boards and committees for the Church. I decided to lay down paid “professional” ministry, in order to re-train as a social worker, and have found my way into a space that blends social work, faith, spirituality and education - some of my passions.

But most of all, I see my work as being someone who accompanies others on their journey. I am committed to trauma informed, reflective practice and receive regular supervision in my social work practice.

Throughout my career, I have had the chance to lead encourage small groups, facilitate opportunities for learning and growth, as well as lead retreats and studies. If you are interested in what we could do together - be it professional supervision, spiritual accompaniment and conversation, retreats, quiet days or guest speaker opportunities, please reach out via matthew@matthewcraneconsulting.com or by using the contact page.

Go well,

Matthew.
